Catechumens and Candidates for the Rite of Reception are those adults who make that very personal choice to become Christian within the Catholic Church. They are to be encouraged, supported, and prayed for, by the whole community that elects and welcomes them into the Church.

Formally this takes place on the 1st Sunday of Lent at the Rite of Election marking the beginning of the final period of preparation before being admitted to the Sacraments of Christian Initiation at the Easter Vigil.

Bishop Peter invites all catechumens and those preparing for Reception into the Catholic Church together with their sponsors and families to these celebrations in the Cathedral.

​

The Rite of Election which forms part of their preparation will be celebrated on Sunday 9th March at 3.00 pm. 

​

Bishop Peter also warmly invites priests, deacons, religious and lay people of the Diocese to join in this celebration.
