Celebrating Marriage & Married Life 2021

Mass in Celebration of Marriage & Married Life 2021

Who could have predicted when we held our first Mass in Celebration of Marriage and Married Life back in 2014, that our 8th year would be so different?  But this year, out of necessity, we embraced the internet and all its opportunities to hold a very different and yet still meaningful celebration.  Bishop Peter celebrated the Mass on Facebook in his empty Oratory at Bishops House and led the couples in renewing their vows at home using the souvenir Mass booklet they had been sent.  After Mass the couples joined together on Zoom to swap wedding day stories and share wedding photos with people with whom they had something in common but in most cases had never met, this turned out to be a most enjoyable and memorable experience for all.

There were fewer couples than in ‘normal’ years but for all the difficulties and restrictions it was a beautiful and meaningful celebration.

‘The Mass celebrating marriage and married life meant so much to us as we celebrate 50 years of marriage later this year.  We were married at Flint, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, on the 4 September 1971.  We especially enjoyed renewing our wedding vows and also knowing other couples were doing the same.

The zoom get together after mass also gave us the wonderful opportunity to share our stories and see each other’s wedding photos. Also to meet the couples celebrating too.  I had to get our photos from out of the loft before mass began.’

‘Steve and I have attended the Mass for several years as we value it as an opportunity to renew our wedding vows and to remind ourselves of our lifelong commitment. We’ve also valued meeting other couples and enjoyed sharing happy memories (particularly the humorous ones!)
Although we are not particularly comfortable with Zoom, we felt it was important to support the on-line event.’
